Commonly found neoplasms are Cancer of Cervix, Kaposi's Sarcoma, Cancer of Tongue, Brest,
Rectum, Head and Neck, Hodgkin's Ly,phoma, Suspected Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, etc.,
Among Indian population HIV/AIDS patients show lesser incidence of cancer due to shorter
duration of HIV positivity and faster progression of AIDS.
Presentation of HIV positive is dectected accidentally while investigations. HIV positive
cases fair poorly for anti-cancer treatment because of advanced disease, faster
progression of cancer, poor hematological status, concurrent infections and poorer
supportive measures avialable. Treatments offered are similar to other cancer's like
surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and anti retroviral treatment apart from
supportive treatment. Increased awareness and prolonged HIV positivity will lead to
identification of more cancer cases.
Most of the cases presented in very poor general condition which did not improve with
routine supportive treatment were investigated for HIV. On detection of HIV concurrent
positivity further supportive care was given. Certain patients improved considerably. Due
to various socio-economic factors, care and follow-up could not be made indenfinitely.
Encouraging results were present till last follow-up of most of the cases where combined
treatment was given.
