Clinically the
anset is not specific with general malaise, headache and moderate fever. The conjunction
of these symptoms with local parasthesia around the wound is diagnostic.
It has 3 stages:
1. Premonitory Stage: Pain and Irritation or discomform at site of bite.
Fear and Anxiety, Depressiom, Intolerance to loud sounds, Period of irritability.
Hoarseness of voice and sense of constriction in throat in throat with difficult in
swalloing. Slight rise of temperature. Duration 1 - 2 days.
2. Stage of Excitement: With intense spasms are dure to the
hyperexcitability and are brought on by least irritation and slightest current of air
(aerophobia). Spasms of Pharynx, Larynx and respiratory muscles and ultimately of whole
body. Pharyngeal spasm especially by attempting to drink(Hydrophobia). Saliva dribbles
from mouth, laboured breathing, Maniacal attacks may occur but tendency to bite is rare.
Voice becomes hoarse expression of terror. Exaggeration of reflexes. Moderate fever. this
stage lasts 2-3 days. Death may occur from cardiac failure.
3. State of Paralysis: This sate is rare. |
